The Basketball Spot Shooting Drill is designed to incorporate the Reactive Stretch Cord in order to enhance a basketball player’s ability to receive contact from an opposing basketball player and retain enough body control to attempt an accurate shot on the goal. When choosing your shot selection during this basketball shooting drill the basketball player is encouraged to mimic the shots they would take during a regular game in order to enhance their game play and to help the Basketball Spot Shooting Drill translate to real game situations. Sets of 30-45 seconds should be used during the Basketball Spot Shooting Drill. The basketball player should be given time to rest between sets as the goal of the basketball shooting drill is not to exhaust the player, but to help them develop better center of gravity and to absorb directional changes during games.

The two forces being exerted on the basketball player by the anchor (partner holding Reactive Stretch Cord) are resistance and assisted. While producing both of these forces on the player, the anchor must remember not to give to much resistance to the athlete during this drill. The anchor must also vary the timing of the resistance and angle of the resistance given to the player during the Basketball Spot Shooting Drill. When the anchor is exerting a reactive force on the basketball player the anchor will stand behind, angled off to the side of the basketball player, pulling down on the Reactive Stretch Cord close to the basketball player just before or as the basketball player is jumping into the air. This motion mimics a basketball player receiving contact from an opposing basketball player attempting to block the basketball or alter the shot. When assistance is applied to the shooter the anchor will stand in front and apply force as the basketball player is running towards the anchor. This is to mimic a basketball player being shoved or pushed from behind. While applying resistance or assistance the anchor should always change angles and move along with the basketball player to help simulate different angles and resistance throughout the Basketball Spot Shooting Drill.
