Rasam is one of the healthiest South Indian dishes you will ever have; but Vada always used to be fried; not anymore. You now can make this no fry Vada Rassam and enjoy it absolutely guilt-free. And the same vada you can have with Sambhar too. So that’s your 3 in 1 recipe. Enjoy.

Ingredients :
1 cup urad dal (split & skinless lentils)
Salt as per taste
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
2-3 finely chopped green chillies
Some finely chopped coriander leaves
Some grated ginger + small ginger knob
Oil
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 tsp mustard seeds (rai)
Pinch of asafoetida powder (hing)
1 dry red chilli
Some curry leaves
2-3 small onions
2 garlic cloves
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp coriander (dhaniya) powder
1.5 tsp Rasam Masala
Red chilli powder (as per taste)
4 tomato puree
1 tsp tamarind (imli) paste
1/4 cup tuvar dal (boiled)
3-3.5 cup water
Small spoon jaggery (gud - optional)
Some crushed black pepper

Method :
Take a mixer jar
Add 1 cup urad dal
(split & skinless lentils - soak in water for 5-6 hours)
You can also add rice in this batter or make it with chana dal as well
Churn with minimum eater to make thick batter
Add salt as per taste and mix it
Beat this batter with electric beater for 5-7 min
Make the batter fluffy
Add 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
Add 2-3 finely chopped green chillies
Add some finely chopped coriander leaves
Add some grated ginger and mix gently
Heat up the pan to make Rasam :
Add some oil
Add 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
Add 1 tsp mustard seeds (rai)
Add a pinch of asafoetida powder (hing)
Add 1 dry red chilli
Add some curry leaves
Add ginger, garlic & onion paste
(grind 2-3 small onions, 2 garlic cloves & a small ginger knob in mixie)
Add salt as per taste
Saute and add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
Add 1 tsp coriander (dhaniya) powder
Add 1.5 tsp Rasam Masala (it's available in market)
Add red chilli powder (as per taste)
Mix it well and add 4 tomato puree
Add 1 tsp tamarind (imli) paste
(lemon juice is optional)
Now add boiled tuvar dal (1/4 cup tuvar dal boiled with 1 cup water)
Add 2 cup water
Add small spoon jaggery (gud - optional)
Add some crushed black pepper
Cover the lid and cook it on medium heat for 10 min
Add some chopped coriander in the

Now let's prepare Vadas :
Heat up the appe pan
Add oil in all cavities and then batter
Flip when they turn golden-brown
Cook other side too
(cook them on medium heat for 7-8 min each side)
Take Rasam in a serving bowl
Add Vadas in it
Top with some coriander leaves
