Students at Hillsboro High School participated in a walkout to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the community.

The demonstration, led by 16-year-old Manny Chavez, followed his emotional testimony to the city council in early November, where he criticized ICE enforcement in Hillsboro and Washington County.

"I'm scared for everyone, not just my family, because if you're colored and you speak Spanish, you're having a target on your back now for sure," Chavez said.

The protest was deeply personal for many participants, including 16-year-old David De Leon, whose older brother faces deportation.

"I feel sad because yesterday was his last court. They told him that he can't stay here, so he's going to get deported," De Leon said.
