Discovered by T.O.Diener in 1971.
Smaller than virus and lack protein coat, hence called viroids.
It has a free RNA of low molecular weight.
It caused potato spindle tuber disease.
The mutually beneficial symbiotic association between algae and fungi is known as lichens.
The algal component is known as phycobiont and fungal component as mycobiont which are autotrophic and heterotrophic, respectively.
Algae prepare food for fungi and fungi provide shelter and absorb mineral nutrients and water for its algal component.
