Why did International Leadership Outreach invest in the project ‘She Learns’ in Kampala, Uganda? How does their presence in Washington state benefit the community they have engaged in?

I was surprised and delighted to discover when I went to Uganda last year that the person I had been communicating with for a year was as nice in person as online.

I’m Jean Walter, founder of International Leadership Outreach (ILO) and author of HeartScape Journey.

In 2023, I met Fred Sebaggala, founder of ‘She Learns,’ through a mutual friend on FaceBook, and began assisting him in supporting his desire to create reusable sani-pads for the girls and women in Uganda. In addition to the sani-pad distribution, Fred holds conferences for the girls to encourage them to stay in school. He believes, “A woman with a voice by definition is a strong woman.”

ILO’s mission is encouraging international networking, exchanging ideas, perspectives and visions with local and global leaders, for the purpose of creating self-sustaining economic opportunities.

We found our niche collaborating with local leaders creating a better future for their community who are committed to ensuring successful outcomes.

A hallmark of these projects is strengthening the most vulnerable children and youth by developing their autonomy and leadership.

Hosting Fred and Angel Sebaggala in Washington state was exactly the kind of opportunity ILO nurtures. By networking and collaborating with leaders who are encouraging the most vulnerable and supporting them in their evolution, their work in Uganda can continue to grow and be empowered. This international networking opportunity also provided ILO with the ability to expand its reach, engage and work with its local community.
