Learn English Punctuation for Kids: Period, Exclamation Mark, Question Mark

English punctuation for kids is a very important grammar lesson. It forms the basics of sentence structure and its understanding. It is very important to learn English for the kid and for the kid to have a clear understanding of using the right punctuation marks in their sentences.

Beginning with the very basics, let's learn about the ending punctuations for kids in this lesson. Ending punctuations are the punctuations that are used at the end of the sentences. It helps to understand the meaning of the sentence, where the sentence is ending and what is the sentence trying to say.

There are three most common ending punctuation marks used:
1. Period(.)
2. A question mark(?)
3. An exclamation point(!)

Most of the sentences end with a period. It marks the end of the sentence. For example:

1. The car is red.
2. I have a book.
3. He is reading.
4. This is an apple.

Sentences which are enquiring about something and are asking a question end with a question mark. For example:

1. Is this your book?
2. Do you have a pen?
3. Are you Jack?
4. How old are you?

The question mark answers the following questions:

1. What?
2. Why?
3. Where?
4. Whom?
5. When?
6. How?

Another very commonly used ending punctuation mark is the exclamation point. It is used when the sentence is trying to express a feeling.

For example:

1. Wow, that car goes really fast!
2. I am going to a big party tonight!
3. I love my new shoes!
4. That is my favorite color!
