Flood prevention efforts underway as City Creek water levels surge in Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City Public Utilities has been working tirelessly to prevent a repeat of history as City Creek's water levels rise, leading to the placement of sandbags around Memory Grove Park to mitigate potential flooding.

The water is rising slightly over the sandbags, so it’s not exactly rushing down State Street, like it was this time 40 years ago.

As the city waits on standby for the water to reach its peak, locals have been stopping by the park to check out the unique sight.

“This is the highest I’ve seen City Creek in the years I’ve lived here and it’s been impressive," Joanne Slotnik, a local, said. "There have been people kayaking here over the weekend; that hasn’t happened here before I don’t think."
