#KumbakonamKadappaRecipe:

Moong Dal - ½ cup
Shallots - 12 nos
Tomato - 2 nos
Green Chilli - 7 nos
Garlic - 12 cloves
Cashew - 10 nos
Coconut Oil - ¼ cup
Salt - 1 tsp
Cloves - 4 nos
Coconut Milk - ¾ cup
Coriander Leaves - 1 tsp
Curry Leaves - 10 nos
Turmeric Powder - ¼ tsp
Water - 2 cups + 1 ½ cups
Asafoetida (Hing) - ¼ tsp

Cooking Instructions:

1. Dry roast the dal and pressure cook it with garlic and turmeric with 2 cups of water for 2 whistles and let it cook on low flame for 5 mins.

2. Heat coconut oil in a pan, add the cloves, broken cashews and fry till golden in colour.

3. Add shallots, green chillies, tomatoes, salt and cook well.

4. Add the pressure cooked dal. Add a cup of water and curry leaves. Let it simmer for 3 mins.

5. Add the coconut milk and coriander leaves. Don’t let it boil after adding coconut milk. Switch off the flame as soon as the small bubbles appear.

6. Serve hot with idlis, idiyappam, and appam.

Cooking Tips:

1. The consistency should not be too thick like sambar. More like soup.
