The Deoband Movement is a Sunni Islamic movement that originated in the Indian subcontinent in the late 19th century. It is named after the town of Deoband in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, where the Darul Uloom Deoband, a prominent Islamic seminary, was founded in 1866. The movement is known for its conservative and traditionalist approach to Islamic theology and law, and for its emphasis on the study of the Islamic sciences.

The Deoband Movement emerged as a response to British colonialism in India and the perceived erosion of traditional Islamic values and practices.
