A 22-year-old Indian postgraduate student who had gone missing in the United States has been found dead, the Consulate General of India, San Francisco confirmed.

The deceased, Saketh Sreenivasaiah, was a native of Karnataka and a Master of Science student at the University of California, Berkeley. He had been missing since Monday.

In a post on X, the Consulate said local police confirmed recovery of his body. Expressing deep condolences, officials stated that they are in touch with his family and are ready to provide all necessary assistance, including coordination with authorities and arrangements for repatriation of his mortal remains to India.

According to sources, Sreenivasaiah’s backpack containing his passport and laptop was found in the Park Hills neighbourhood. Police had earlier appealed to the public for information regarding his whereabouts.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
