In 2011, 40-year-old Farmer Marius Els was fatally attacked by his pet hippo - an incident which would not only devastate those closest to him but one that would also raise suspicions about an event they believed was "bound to happen".

After having Rescued him from a severe flood when he was just a baby, the former army major would go on to adopt the orphaned baby hippo, and would bring him home to his 400-acre farm where he also kept two other exotic animals- a giraffe and a rhino- to be specific.
In order to help him settle in and adapt to his new home, Major Els provided Humphrey with a sprawling lake of his own.
