In early January 2017 we capture KiwiRail freight trains over a short part of the rail network in the Christchurch area from the city's marshal rail yards at Middleton, to the port of Lyttelton via the long Lyttelton tunnel beneath the Port Hills. This line is one of the busiest parts of the rail network as it carries a mixture of freight that is exported to and from New Zealand overseas such as coal and milk. We catch up with these trains carrying those goods along the section of railway to the port such as Solid Energy's West Coast coal trains and the Port of Lyttelton's mainline shunt to their inland port out at Rolleston, enjoy!
