This chapter is not only one of the most intense and horrifying parts, but also by far one of the most memorable chapter in Michael Crichton’s Novel: While finishing the cast of the baby rex, Ian and Sarah began discusses about Isla Sorna having too many predators, argues the prey on the island are large in numbers however she counters that is not a plausible argument. Sarah suggest there might be a differential death rate for prey animals due to growth rate or dying fast at a young age, Ian mentions that some of the dinosaurs haven't reaching full maturity and found no evidence of dead dinosaurs anywhere. Malcolm decided to check the InGen network, recounting that he previously noticed memos of a disease amongst the dinosaurs and finds the herbivores were fed plant matter while the carnivores were not fed by chicken meat, but rather sheep extract for one year. Suddenly, the perimeter sensors activate and they realize it's not the wind which triggered it. The academics not only realizing the unexpected visitors of two Tyrannosaurs, but also a full attack at the Challenger Trailer. As everyone watched in horror on the High Hide, Thorne questions why the Tyrannosaurs did that and Levine replies using his expertise that, taking the baby changed the adults' 'perceived behavior.' He explains Tyrannosaurus Rex doesn’t think; they act by instinct, marking territory and defending where they marked. Eddies yells that the accordion connector holding the two trailers will snap and Thorne immediately heads to rescue them before it was too late.

Fun Fact: This entire chapter of the book was adapted in its film adaptation, The Lost World Jurassic Park. Where both tyrannosaurs came to find their infant and attack the RV.
