A great tip from a commenter on this video: When you connect and twist the wires back together, don't leave them bare and use ceramic wire nuts (that won't melt) and secure them to each set of connected wires. This lowers the risk of causing a short.

Anyway, for whatever reason this design was created with (what I presume was) good intention, but it hinders any ability to keep consistent heat on stove tops when you're trying to cook something, much less trying to get water to a steady boil!

I feel like my method to fix this is very crude and impractical, but it's been working so far in our kitchen, so I hope it helps your kitchen just the same, if not better!
