Transformers Energon Tribute - Calling You

Well, I figured since I made a Transformers Armada video, why not head right into making a video for its sequel series, Transformers Energon? So, I did. It went a lot easier than the Armada one did, partly cause Energon doesn't have anywhere near the amount of (good) scenes that Armada does so I didn't have to download as many.

The song used is "Calling You", the ending credits theme to Energon's Japanese version. It was more awesome than it has any right to be...considering the show itself is by-and-large crap. Energon is arguably the worst show of Transformers...arguably. And I don't mean its Japanese version, Super Link. That's not that great, but Energon takes it a step further somehow. Aside from the complete crap dubbing that makes no damn sense most of the time, the American version (SOMEHOW) has INCOMPLETE ANIMATION.

Like...WHAT?! How?! Literally how? It's an anime. It comes from Japan. How would they have a chance to get it with incomplete animation in America? Episodes miss entire objects, you can see production notes on a sketch that makes up one of the backgrounds in the American version, and the final 2D animated fight (Galvatron and Optimus) has still frames instead of actual animation for the fight in Energon! It's just unacceptable.

That being said, Energon is completely hilarious in how bad it is. And in spite of that it does have certain moments that do give an emotion. But everything else just makes it so hard to watch all the way through. Added to that, it is so...damn...boring. The first batch of episodes yeah, it moves at a good breakneck pace, but then once they get to space it's just sitting around...talking...and talking...and then they kill Unicron.

...THEY KILL UNICRON...they get rid of the plot-point of the damn show. So back when I was little I had no clue they went beyond that. But they did for about 10-20 more episodes which are nowhere near as memorable as things like Inferno's Death or Shockblast's escape.

But I guess I shouldn't expect that much considering the quality of the story. After Armada, which did a fairly good job at portraying the war of Autobots and Decepticons and all that, Energon just sorta...kills it. Completely negates all character development and feeling of meaning. Bring back Starscream but make him a zombie getting rid of his conflict between what he should be doing. Turn Cyclonus into an unbearably yodeling asshat. And, my personal favorite, wipe Demolisher's mind and just simply make him evil again. And that one really ticked me off. I mean he's the one they actually TRIED to develop in Energon. At first he's with the Autobots after being a Decepticon for the previous series and he's like "well...do I really belong here?..." and then after joining the Decepticons he's not really willing to go through all the bad crap that they do. THAT is the kind of stuff I wanted to see elaborated on. Something that could drive a story arc. But no. Just kill him and bring him back as an idiot that doesn't remember a thing. That totally works too...

...but at least the song kicks ass.
