Feel a sense of total knitting mastery once you succeed for the first time in this breath taking stitch! Once you have familiarised yourself with the basics move onto working stripes as part 2, or work my brand new method in the round!
Better still why not create Herringbone stripes in the round with beautifully seamless perfect stripes! The possibilities are endless.....Good luck!
The scarves featured in this collection are worked lengthways meaning that it is necessary to cast on a large number of sts and work a small number of rows. I recommend creating a tension square and checking your gauge due to the large number of stitches involved.

Note- For best results in the Herringbone stitch you will have to increase your needle size from that recommended on the ball band tension up to 15mm (US 19).

Materials
10mm (US 15), 80cm (32in) long circular needle to cast on and off with.
15mm (US 19), 80cm (32in) long circular needle.
Optional 9mm crochet hook.
Embroidery needle
350g or X7 50g balls of Freedom Wool by Twilleys.
For similar results look for yarn that uses 10mm (US 15) needles, & check that the ball band tension = 10sts & 14 rows to 10cm (4in).

Striped Version - Expect to use appx 150g of each of the 3 colour ways. King Cole, Big Value, Super Chunky in shades 35 and 30 were used in conjunction withTwilleys Freedom Wool in colour 437 for the striped scarf featured in the video.

Tension
Herringbone Stitch tension using 15mm (US19) needles =
10.9 sts = 10cm(4in).
200sts = 183cm(72in)
Finished garment after gentle blocking measures 183cm/72in long and 22cm/8.25in wide.
