Описание к видео How does a Circuit Breaker Actually Work?

“How does a Circuit Breaker Actually Work?”.
"Welcome! Today we’re going to understand how a circuit breaker actually works and why it is such an important component in electrical systems."
Introduction
"A circuit breaker is essentially a protective switch. It’s designed to automatically cut off the power whenever there’s an overload or short circuit. By interrupting the current flow, it prevents damage to the wiring, appliances, and reduces fire risks."
Components of a Circuit Breaker
"A circuit breaker consists of several key parts. The frame provides the structure, while the contacts allow electricity to flow. An arc extinguisher helps to stop the electrical arc that forms when the contacts separate. The operating mechanism opens or closes the breaker, and the trip unit is the brain of the system—it detects faults and triggers the disconnection."
Working Principle
"Here’s how it works: Under normal conditions, electricity flows freely through the contacts. When there’s a fault, the trip unit senses the abnormal current. It then activates the mechanism to force the contacts apart. This creates an arc, which is immediately extinguished by the arc chute. Finally, the flow of electricity is stopped, protecting the circuit from damage."
Types of Circuit Breakers
"There are different types of circuit breakers used for different applications. Miniature circuit breakers, or MCBs, are common in homes. MCCBs are used for higher current ratings. RCCBs protect against leakage currents. In larger power systems, air, vacuum, and SF6 circuit breakers are used for heavy-duty protection."
Applications
"Circuit breakers are everywhere. They safeguard residential wiring, protect industrial machines, and ensure safe power distribution in substations. They also prevent fire hazards from overloads and shield sensitive electronic equipment from sudden current surges."
Conclusion
"In summary, circuit breakers are essential safety devices. They automatically detect and isolate faults, ensuring both safety and reliability in electrical systems. Depending on the voltage and current needs, different breakers are selected. Simply put, they are the silent guardians of our electrical networks."
