The DCU has officially started under James Gunn's guidance, launching with the quintessential superhero, Superman. Audiences and critics agree that it's a successful start and and overall amazing film with hard hitting emotion and themes.

...why?

Over a week after my initial viewing, my mind couldn't erase the frustrations I had when leaving the theater. From the bizarre pacing and tone, to the underdeveloped characters and arcs, the lackluster soundtrack, and the severely underwhelming emotion. Everyone loves it, hailing it as a beacon of positivity that made them want to be better.

So what am I missing? Because that's the movie I wanted, and I didn't get it.
