World Population 2021 Visualized

I hope you enjoy this slightly different video of mine! In this video I visualize the population of every nation in the world using 8 000 wooden blocks.

The colours used represent the different continents, red for Asia, yellow for Africa, pink for Europe, brown for Oceania, blue for North and Central America and green for South America. The largest nations in the world in 2021 is China, India, United States, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Russia, Mexico and Japan. One block represents one million inhabitants. The fragments used to represent the nations below one million are not perfectly measured.

I use a list of 197 nations based on the population statistics from the United Nations Population Division, meaning that for example Taiwan is counted separately from China while Hong Kong and Macau is not. Kosovo is counted as part of Serbia and Western Sahara is counted as a sovereign state. This is not a political endorsement in any direction, just a choice made based on the data material.
