Описание к видео Why Men Must Provide in Islam 💰 | Nouman Ali Khan

In the Qur’an, Allah did not outline every detail about how a marriage works. Instead, He gave us foundational pillars—principles without which the entire structure of marriage collapses. One of the most important of these pillars is financial responsibility, which Allah placed on men. From the very beginning, when a man chooses to get married, he accepts the duty of providing for his wife and family. This includes the mahr (dowry), groceries, housing, bills, children’s needs, and more.

Unfortunately, many men neglect this responsibility. Some delay paying the mahr for years, treat it as a symbolic figure, or even try to bargain it down after marriage. Yet in Islam, once agreed upon, it must be honored fully—without excuses, complaints, or pressure on the wife to forgive or discount it. Whatever a man gifts his wife—be it money, jewelry, or even a car—becomes entirely hers. He cannot take it back, use it without permission, or claim ownership over it.

This principle also extends to the wife’s own earnings or inheritance. If she chooses to work or owns property, that wealth remains exclusively hers. The husband has no right to demand or hint at using it. Islam protects women’s financial independence while making men accountable for the household’s financial stability.

Sadly, some cultural practices distort this responsibility—such as forcing wives to work while men stay home, or putting joint accounts in the husband’s and his mother’s names while excluding the wife. These are abuses that go against the spirit of Islam. If a man is not ready to shoulder financial responsibility, he is not ready for marriage.

Marriage in Islam begins with respect, justice, and provision. A true man fulfills his duty so that his wife never has to beg for food, question her security, or fight for her rights. That is one of the first conditions Allah mentions for what makes a marriage work.
