Getting thrown questions and objects to juggle, there’s a lot going on for Jen Agans, Associate Professor in the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management (RPTM) at Penn State.

03:37 – What is RPTM all about? What misconceptions are there about RPTM?
Jen found her love for the circus arts throughout middle school and high school, which is when she also started teaching. Performing and teaching through the Flying Gravity Circus, Jen learned firsthand the power of positive development in children through comprehensive circus arts education.
Jen came to the Penn State College of Health and Human Development to study the benefits of recreation and physical activity for young people. “One of the things that's starting to emerge from my research is that it's less about one activity being good for everyone, and more about everyone being able to find an activity that works for them at that particular stage in their life.”
RPTM can be a “discovery” major, meaning, many students may not know the major exists before coming to university.
Our world-class researchers, educators, and students work with experts from many disciplines to examine the global impact of leisure on human development, health, and wellness — as well as the effects of recreation and tourism on ecological, economic, and cultural systems. Through a body of research, teaching, and experiential learning that touches everything from lawmakers on Capitol Hill to the landscape of Yellowstone National Park, we influence policy-making, environmental impact, marketing strategies, and much more — and we have a good measure of fun while doing so.
(** Being involved in RPTM does not require you to juggle or be involved in the circus arts, but Jen may try to teach you anyway.**)
