Tsipras visits NMacedonia, first since name change

(2 Apr 2019) Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras arrived in North Macedonia on Tuesday, the first ever official visit by a Greek leader to its neighbouring country after decades of strained relations over a naming dispute.
Tsipras' visit to the capital Skopje comes after the two nations finalised an agreement to rename the small Balkan country earlier this year.
The change paved the way for North Macedonia to join NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) and potentially the European Union.
Tsipras is leading a large Greek government and business delegation, who alongside their North Macedonian counterparts, are expected to sign a number of agreements aimed at boosting closer cooperation in defence, security, economy, tourism and education.
