(RDR2) - The Obelisk & Face Trees Locations

What could both these possibly mean? All I got on the obelisk is that some artist architect built it for frontiermens to find. Then the faces on those pine trees, I think the Natives curved them to represent their elders sort of like Mount Rushmore is. Whats your thoughts?
