Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga,a famous pilgrimage centre of the Hindus is located on Rameshwaram island in Tamil Nadu. The southern most out of the 12 Jyotirlingas and one of the Char Dham Yatra destinations, established by Shri Aadi Shankaracharya. They are Shri Badrinath ji in the North, Jagannath ji at Puri in the East, Dwarkadheesh ji in the West and Rameshwaram in the South. Rameshwaram is connected with the Indian mainland by Pamban bridge .
Shri Sailam Shri Bhramarambika Mallikarjun Swamy jyotirlinga temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and one of the 18 Shaktipeeths on Srisailam hills, 180 km from Kurnool and 213 km from Hyderabad,Telangana.
The place is also famous for Wild life sanctuary and Krishna river dam. Aadi Shankaracharya wrote Shivanand Lahari here. The temple is built in Dravidian style of architecture with 4 grand Gopurams, many shrines besides the prominent Mallikarjun jyotirlinga and Bhramarambika temples. The temple existed in the 2nd century. Vijayanagar kings and Shivaji made additions in the temple.
Mahakaal jyotirlinga is in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh on the banks of the holy river Shipra. Ujjain is one of the Sapta Puris. A centre of trade, government,learning and spiritual growth since ancient times. A place of famous poets like Kalidas,big kings and sages .A place famous for Kumbh Mela every 12 years. Here devotees come for holy bath,daan and pitripuja. A place where Bhagwan Shiva is Jagrit and rules this area. This temple is very old. Descriptions of the temple even in 6th century B.C. Earlier temple was on wooden pillars. The temple is five storied. Jyotirlinga in the garbha griha with Mata Parvati, Ganesh Ji and Bhagwan Kartikeya. Nandi in the south.
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is a Swayambhu lingam in Mandhata,Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. Mandhata is a river island and can be approached by boats. It is said here king Mandhata did tapasya and pleased Bhagwan Shiva .He
requested Bhagwan Shiva to stay here and this island which has the shape of ॐ is called Omkar Mandhata. There are two Jyotirlingas here - Omkareshwar on the Omkar Parvat on the north banks of the Narmada river and Amreshwar or Mamaleshwar on the southern banks of the Narmada river. There are 68 tirths here. The ghat of Narmada ji is called Koti tirth or Chakra tirth . Devotees take bath in the Narmada river before Darshan. There are 108 Shiva lingams here. Mamaleshwar temple is built by Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar. First we do Puja in Omkareshwar temple then proceed to Mamaleshwar temple.
Kedarnathji temple's location is on the banks of Mandakini river , amidst the Himalayan ranges in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Among one of the Chota Char dhams . The Highest of the 12 Jyotirlingas . One among the five Kedars. Swayambhu Shiva lingam in the garbha griha which is decorated with gold plates.
Six months Darshan due to cold weather. The idol of Bhagwan Kedarnath ji is worshipped in Ukhimath for six months.
Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga temple is in Bhorgiri village amidst the beauty of the Sahyadri hills,110 km from Pune. The place is also famous for the Wild life sanctuary in the Western ghats with a rich variety of flora and fauna.
According to the puranic legend Bhagwan Shiva killed Tripurasur here as Bhimashankar . The temple is built in Nagar style of architecture .In the 18th century Nana Phadanavis built sabha mandap and Shikhar of the temple . Shivaji made endowments to the temple. Chimaji Appa offered a bell here after defeating the Portuguese . There are 240 steps to reach the temple.
Kashi Vishwanath jyotirlinga in Varanasi,a very ancient Dham of the Hindus ,is on the western banks of Ganga ji. One of the Saptapuris. Also called the golden temple of Bhagwan Shiva as one of the two Shikhars, a dome and garbha griha are gold plated. The temple has seen many attacks by the invaders and many renovations by the devotees like Raja Mansingh, Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore. Bhagwan Shiva is called Ruler of the Universe here.
Devotees take bath in Ganga ji before Darshan .In the garbha griha the black stone Shiva lingam is on the silver bedi /altar.
Trimbakeshwar jyotirlinga temple is located amidst the natural beauty. The origin of the Gautami Ganga or Godavari river is near Trimbakeshwar.The temple is built in the Hemadpanthi style of architecture.
