MURDOCH FAMILY
The Murdoch family is back in the headlines. They're settling a little family feud in a court case at the moment. It all starts with Rupert Murdoch, he's an Aussie turned American who created a global media empire including several well known newspapers and tabloids here in Australia and overseas and TV networks like Fox News. His news empire grew to be worth billions of dollars and became so big it started having a big influence on politics around the world and was involved in some pretty big controversies. So the question always remained — who gets the empire when Rupert Murdoch's not around anymore? Well, back in 1999 it was decided that his four oldest children would basically get equal control over his companies. But Mr Murdoch's now decided he wants to change that so that most of the power will go to his oldest son Lachlan who agrees with him on how things should be run, while Rupert's other children James, Elisabeth and Prudence, have very different ideas for the future of the media empire which could then change its influence on global politics. A family court battle in Nevada has kicked off to try and settle this and it's all being kept pretty secretive. But some argue it's important for the public to know what's going on in a case that could change the future of media as we know it.

EUROPE FLOODS
Heavy flooding has swamped Eastern Europe as storm Borris makes its way through the region. Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Romania have all been hit and tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes. So far at least 17 people have died and authorities are telling people to stay safe as the storm now makes its way towards Italy.

TIKTOK BAN
TikTok was in court today in Washington DC to try and challenge a law that could see the social media app banned in the U.S. Earlier this year the U.S. Government voted in favour of a bill that would give Byte Dance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, two options — sell TikTok or face a ban. The law came about because the US thinks TikTok could be feeding data from the 170 million Americans who use the app to the Chinese government which is something TikTok and Byte Dance denies. TikTok says the law goes against American values and would have a big impact on free speech for its U.S. users.

NZ BIRD OF THE YEAR
Now to one of the year's most anticipated awards — New Zealand's Bird of the Year competition. So what bird has been crowned the winner for 2024? Well it's shy, smelly, noisy and it's waddled all the way to the top spot. It's the Hoiho penguin. It's actually their second time taking out the win and they had a pretty strong campaign behind them full of memes and celebrity endorsements. Hoiho, which means 'noise shouter' are native to New Zealand and are also known as the yellow eyed penguin. They're also thought to be one of the world's rarest penguin species and are listed as endangered with only about 4 to 5 thousands left in the world. More than 50,000 people from around the world voted in this year's poll and many experts are hoping this moment in the spotlight will help boost conservation efforts for these shy and smelly little penguins.

VIRAL HIPPO
Taking social media by storm is an adorable bouncy baby hippo. Moo Deng is just two months old but has been drawing quite the crowd at this zoo in Thailand, after her zoo keeper posted videos her to social media that went viral.

RUSSIAN PET PARADE
Strutting in next are these fashionable pups at the Petshop Days festival in Moscow. It's the largest festival in Russia where owners get together to celebrate their pets. There are events like running races, long jump, high jump, dog yoga and of course plenty of food for those good boys and girls.

ZOO MOON CAKES
Animals at this zoo in China have celebrated the mid autumn festival with some special moon cakes. Including iced fish moon cakes for the spotted seals and extra large iced fruit moon cakes for the polar bear.
