**Description** Webinar number 119
Krey Price @Surface Water Solutions and Chris Goodell @Kleinschmidt Associates explore the impacts of ice dam and landslide dam failures.

Failures of natural dams have carved out some of the most impressive geological features on earth. In more recent times, a 1786 earthquake induced landslide dam resulted in over 100,000 deaths which rivals the death toll from the failure of constructed dams. Could it happen again?

In this webinar, we will present 3D visualisations of the largest natural dam failures on earth. We will also address the risks that landslides and ice dams present around the world. Case studies include the 200+ earthquake-induced natural dams that formed in response to the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake in New Zealand, the GLOF (Glacial Lake Outburst Flood) that carved out the Columbia River Gorge, and the rock and ice avalanche behind India's tragic 2021 Uttarakhand disaster.
