What is the difference between the different types of glass and safety glass? What makes a glass a safety glass?
In the first video, we take a look at passive safety glass. But what is it? Passive safety glass is a type of glass that protects against injury if it breaks.
This video explains safety glass and compares tempered glass, laminated safety glass, and float glass according to their resistance.
Whether in the car, in the shower wall, or as a tabletop - tempered glass (ESG) and laminated safety glass (LSG) have countless applications. But what makes the glass "safe"? In the video, we explain the special features and possible applications of tempered glass, laminated safety glass, and float glass. We also show what happens if they break or have to withstand a burglar.
Because no matter how careful we are, accidents can always happen. That's why it's reassuring to know that safety glass such as tempered glass and laminated safety glass has been developed to minimize injuries, even if the glass breaks.
Tempered glass is a single-pane safety glass. Thermal treatment increases its strength and safety. This is why it is also called safety glass. During the production of tempered glass, a float glass pane is heated and then quickly cooled, which leads to internal stresses. This makes the glass more resistant to external stresses such as pressure, impact, and bending.
In the video, we will test whether tempered glass is also burglar-proof.
LSG stands for "laminated safety glass". In contrast to toughened safety glass, laminated safety glass consists of at least two panes of glass that are joined together by an intermediate layer of plastic. This intermediate layer, which is often made of polyvinyl butyral (PVB), ensures that in the event of breakage, the glass splinters adhere to the film, thus minimizing the risk of injury.
LSG glass offers increased security and resistance than tempered glass, as the laminated structure means that the glass is held together even if it breaks.
But does LSG glass offer burglary protection? We test how burglar-proof conventional laminated safety glass is.
