In this tutorial I show you ways of color mixing colored pencils and how to mix colored pencil colors and make colors you don’t have in your colored pencil set. I show you how to mix colored pencil colors from only one set, which is Faber-Castell Polychromos. And additionally I will also show you how to mix colors for drawing from a reference and make colors similar to the reference. These color mixing tips are very useful to do if you are limited on colors with your colored pencil set, you do not have a color you need, or you are trying to match and make colors you are drawing from a reference.
Color mixing colored pencils can be difficult to learn how to identify what colors you need to equal the color you are going for, it takes a lot of practice to learn what colors you are seeing. One way you can make it easier on yourself to learn this, is to use just one colored pencil set and get familiar with it, use it for all of your drawings for a while. This color mixing tutorial will help you grasp the fundamentals that go into creating a range of colors for wildlife subjects and a few colors you might not have.
