Possible spoilers follow for anyone who doesn’t know the identity of Samus Aran, revealed a few decades ago.

Back in the 90s, I discovered several glitches that result from slowly ejecting the Metroid cartridge from an original style NES, long before anyone had publicized debug passwords. Description of this particular video:

Now this is the holy grail of the cartridge eject glitches! You have every power-up equipped, despite the fact that all power-ups are still in their original locations. Your beam is actually a combination of the long beam, wave beam, and ice beam. Furthermore, you have infinite missiles and health, despite not having collected any of the missiles or energy tanks. This is essentially debug mode, but you get even more than you’d normally get out of a known debug password (NARPAS SWORD), because you also have the green skinned Samus, which isn’t possible by any other means!

If you don’t hear the Tourian music the first time you enter the next screen, you are on your merry way. But in this video, I happened to encounter it, so there is a way to avoid the nasty freeze on the next screen. Simply go down to Kraid's hideout and back up to circumvent the freeze!

Now you can work your way up to Tourian by capitalizing on yet another trick I documented on my website back in the 90s. Carefully make a Rio enter the room with the boss statues with you. Your strange version of the ice beam will be more than sufficient to freeze the Rio in the correct place, as seen in the video. Now work your way into Tourian!

There is just one caveat to be aware of: Avoid killing any Metroids unless you happen to pick up a missile tank! The reason for this is that Metroids can often drop energy or missiles. But since you are never supposed to see missile drops when you haven’t collected any, the game will freeze! Fire a missile or two on a frozen Metroid if you must escape, but don’t fire five!

(Please excuse my gameplay, as I’m currently recovering from numerous eye surgeries as of the time I upload this. I used to play a lot better than this.)

One more thing you will notice is the ending. Despite having played as a green skinned Samus, the game thinks you are actually armored Samus initially. But since you are beating the game very fast, you get the best ending, and I made one more video to show that the glitchy color palette goes away when you enter the next quest in #3b....
