Greetings everyone! Welcome to the Ranch! The Monster Rancher franchise, which goes by Monster Farm in Japan(モンスターファーム, Monsutā Fāmu), is not as widely known as some of the other monster franchises that spawned from the late 90's but don't let that fool you. This series has quite the personality and spirit! From the monster raising simulation video games, to the crunchy anime that gives morning cartoon vibes, and even a decent trading card game are all just some forms of media that this franchise offered. Luckily in December 2021 the golden Tecmo franchise was brought back to life. Veteran ranchers and new comers alike now have the chance to play Monster Rancher 1 & Monster Rancher 2 with the DX release.

This is a live playthrough of the game broadcasted from Twitch. First we'll be casually replaying and walking down nostalgia lane as I aim for unlocking all monsters and watching the credits. After some casual play I will be attempting various challenges including a "Nuzlocke" challenge. The Monster Rancher community borrows the term from the Pokémon community which implies an increased difficulty challenge to a game that is deemed easier to beat. Also once the casual run is complete and the ranch is in great condition we will be creating monsters for actual tournaments against other players!

With so much potential, hopefully this is the beginning of a comeback for the franchise. Perhaps we see the return of #3 and #4! There are a lot of other great content creators that host the tournaments and perform challenges with this game, go check them out! I do have a few plans involving the franchise in the future. One idea currently brewing is creating a Monster Rancher expansion of sorts to be inserted into your favorite TTRPG. New D&D setting? Side rules for Savage Worlds? A new system all together?
