Tucker and Mr. Jeff from MACkite recently got their hands on the new WAKA Glide Folding Wing Foil Board and came away seriously impressed. The board first caught Jeff’s attention months back when it showed up in his social feed—he was intrigued by the idea of a board that folds in half. At first glance, they were both skeptical. Folding boards have existed in other water sports like windsurfing, SUP, and kiteboarding, but none had really nailed the performance-to-convenience ratio. That changed when they got the WAKA in the shop and had a chance to put it through the wringer.
Their first impressions were dominated by the board’s incredibly light weight. Jeff guessed it was around 12–13 pounds, which is lighter than most carbon boards on the market. The travel bag—available separately—was another highlight. It's a roller bag with room for foils, wings, and other gear, and features a backpack strap that makes it easy to haul through airports or down to the water.
The folding mechanism itself uses three M8 screws—two on the side and one underneath—to secure the hinge. It's been tested for a million folds, meaning durability isn’t a concern. Assembly is fairly straightforward, though they noted that the included ratchet tool can be slow to use since it’s difficult to get full turns due to the surrounding board shape. They're hoping for a better tool in the future, but for most people who only assemble it once for a trip, it's not a big issue.
What really won them over, though, was how the WAKA rides. Both Jeff and Tucker were shocked at how little compromise there was in performance. Jeff took the board on a serious downwinder between Muskegon and Grand Haven—about 30 miles—in high winds and cold water, and it held up like a champ. Tucker rode it in light winds with a 3m wing and still got on foil easily. They both praised the board’s stability, glide, and efficiency across conditions. Even though it's a folding board, the WAKA had no flex, no weird vibration, and no awkward feeling underfoot. It rode just like a premium hardboard should.
They also talked about the well-thought-out design. The traction pad is recessed so the board folds cleanly, with a kick-tail that doubles as a reference point for back-foot placement. The hinge area is solid, but they warned to keep sand out of it and not to get your fingers caught during assembly—it’s got real pinch potential. The overall pad layout, with visual cues like the centerline and size label, made foot placement intuitive. Both riders liked how their knees naturally landed in comfortable zones while paddling or resting on the board.
Tucker was riding the 88L and originally thought he’d prefer the 66L or 77L for travel, but the lightweight feel and ease of use made him rethink that. For a board that rides smaller than its volume and still pops up with ease in light winds, the 88L became his top pick for travel versatility. Jeff, similarly, leaned toward the 77L for its balance of stability and performance. They both agreed the larger volumes are great travel solutions, especially since you can pack lighter gear and still make it work across a range of wind conditions.
Build quality was another major win. The carbon layup looks slick in black, though it will show scuffs more easily. Still, for what you’re getting—a high-performance folding carbon board that rides like a solid board—the few cons (like needing a better tool and being careful with carbon impacts) were negligible. The included or optional bags are well-padded, and the ability to store and transport this board like a regular suitcase was a game-changer. No oversized baggage fees. No ding repairs from baggage handlers. Just easy travel.
Both Jeff and Tucker emphasized that this is not a “for a folding board, it’s pretty good” situation. This is a legitimately great wing foil board that just so happens to fold in half. Beginners might be able to use the larger sizes, but intermediate to advanced riders looking for performance and travel flexibility will find this especially appealing. Whether you’re flying, shipping, or stashing it on a sailboat, this board opens up new possibilities without compromise.
In the end, they were stoked. Truly innovative products in this space are rare, but the WAKA Glide Folding Wing Foil Board hits that sweet spot of thoughtful design, performance, and real-world practicality. For anyone traveling with wing gear or tight on storage space, this might just be the most exciting board of the year. The WAKA Glide is expected to land around August or September, and MACkite will have them available for pre-order.
