If you think local, then you got to be thinking YellowPages! The source of it all and the holy grail, the yellow pages, which was once your only directory of local businesses, has now become one directory amongst thousands.
But don’t be fooled! YellowPages may be one of the oldest local business directories, but yet, it is still a powerhouse engine to connect with your local audience. Often times, YellowPages search results STILL appear within the first few search results from google when someone is searching for a specific product/service in a local area.
For example, let’s say that I am living in Skokie, Illinois and am searching for a basic window repair service for my home. The first thing that I will do is open up a google search and type in “Window Repair Skokie, IL”.
As you can see, although not the first google result, YellowPages is on the first page and there is a good chance you would scan at least the first 6-7 google listings to see what local businesses show up. In fact, if you were a window repair company, I would say that you should undoubtedly create a social profile on every single one of those business directories, like homeadvisor.com, yelp.com, and thumbtack.com.
By doing so, people searching for your business services will find you on multiple websites, which gives the appearance that you are a serious, professional business who is very trustworthy (especially if you invest in your testimonials).
So to help you get started, here is the step-by-step process of setting up your business listing on YellowPages:
Head over to the YellowPages business platform by clicking on this link
In the middle of the screen, you should see some small text that says “Get Started”. It should be highlighted in yellow. Click on that and you will arrive in a new tab.
As requested, enter the needed information to set up your YellowPages account. Enter your business name and business phone and then click “Get my free listing”.
You will then be asked to fill in your First Name, Last Name and Business Email. Proceed by filling in these fields, and then click on “Claim Now”.
The next step is the lengthiest one, however you are almost done! Fill in the remaining details of your business which are requested there. Make sure to fill out as many data fields as possible. If you have a website, include it as well in the “Web Site” data field. I highly recommend you add a description of your business as well. This helps you rank higher in YellowPages listings. Once you have filled in all of the relevant fields, click on “Continue”. NOTE: After clicking continue, you may have to wait 1-2 minutes.
If you see the popup message that it cannot be uploaded immediately, the best solution is to call YellowPages directly during their business hours at 800-479-2977.
Over the phone call, you will successfully be verified and your business listing will be in YellowPages.
