Achilles tendinopathy is an overuse injury of the achilles tendon. Previously thought of as achilles tendonitis, we now understand that degenerative changes are the main cause of chronic pain and increased risk of injury, with inflammation playing a minimal role.

It is important that this type of injury is treated correctly as rest alone will not be enough for it to heal at the later stages and can become a source of chronic pain and increased risk for tendon rupture.
