Jeff: Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this TowSmart towing starter kit for two inch hitches. It has the two inch ball and a 5,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this starter kit will contain the basic components needed for towing, the ball mount with the hitch ball and a hitch lock. The ball mount is what will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank portion right back here is what'll slide into your vehicle's two inch hitch receiver.

And the ball platform right up front here provides this two inch hitch ball for connecting to your trailer coupler.Now, if you look at the cross section of this shank here, it's a hollow shank, but if you notice it has an X mount design to it. This will help channel away any moisture or dirt. If you notice, it has indentations on both sides here. So any moisture or dirt that gets inside your hitch when you insert this, it'll fall out to help prevent it from seizing inside your hitch. Now, both the drop and the rise positions are available to ensure level towing.

The drop would be measured from the top of the shank here to the top of the ball platform. So the maximum drop would be three and a quarter inches. And if you move it into the rise position, now you would have to unscrew the ball and flip the ball over. But the rise would be top of the shank, top of the ball platform again. So it would give you a maximum rise of two inches.Now, this kit also comes with this hitch receiver lock.

This will help prevent theft of your ball mount or any hitch mounted accessory. If you notice it has this nice watertight dust cap on it, prevents internal corrosion of your lock cylinder. Two keys are included. The pin diameter on this is 5/8 of an inch. The overall length from one end to the other, it's right at five and 1/8 inches.

And the usable length, which is the inside portion here, it's going to be right at two and 3/4 inches. And again, just to open it and you take your key, insert it in there, just turn it a quarter of a turn and it'll unlock it. Put it through your hitch pin hole, put it back on, turn it, and it locks it into place. At the end of this video, I am going to demonstrate how the lock works into a two inch hitch receiver with this ball mount.This does meet the J684 towing safety regulations. It is a black powder coated ball mount, chrome plated hitch ball, and the chrome plated lock is corrosion resistant. I did mention this lock is 5/8 inch diameter pin, so it is designed to fit into this hitch pin hole right here, which is a 5/8 inch diameter hole. Application again, is two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver. Gross towing weight capacity is 5,000 pounds, tongue weight capacity of 500 pounds. We mentioned the ball size diameter is two inches. We want to give you a few measurements. The overall length from the end here all the way to the front, is going to be right at 13 inches. And a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball, is going to be right at nine and 1/4 inches.So what we're going to do now is I got an example of a two inch hitch receiver right here. This is what your two inch hitch receiver would be like. And you just take your shank portion and slide it right in. Once you get the hole lined up, take your lock, pop the cap open, take your included key, unlock it. And then slide the pin in from one side all the way over to the other. And then just go ahead and put your lock on there, and put your cap over there. And just like that, you're locked in place. Nobody's going to be able to take your ball mount or your hitch accessory out of your hitch.And then when it's time to remove it, just take your key, insert it in there, quarter of a turn will remove it. Slide it out, put it back together, and then you can slide your ball mount right out. And again, if you want to put it in a rise, you just do it this way, but you would have to reattach the ball the other way.
