Quick test of the Best Brass e-Sax Mute case for Alto Sax with a Startone SAS-75 Altosaxophon. The case indeed quietens the sax to about the volume of a human voice. I haven't played sax anymore for many years and now try to get into it again.

I learned to play a bit of Saxophone back in 1994 in a relatively short time mainly self-taught, but also had a few lessons at Daniel Bohnenblust from GMF (Grand Mother's Funck). I only had a lended Saxophone then, but a very expensive one (Selmer Paris).

I composed and recorded this track then:

Shortly after I had to return the Saxophone to its owner again and I had no money to buy a one by myself. That's why I haven't played Saxophone anymore afterwards in all these years. But recently I became curious if I still could play a few notes after all these years or if all is gone, so I bought a cheap Startone Altosaxophone at Thomann.

Unfortunately I have a damage in the inner ear (Recruitment) which makes everything much louder than before and so the Saxophone at its normal volume isn't bearable anymore for me. That's the main reason I bought this damping case. Of course it's also needed in a flat because of the neighbours.

As you can hear the damping works very well and dampens down the volume to about the volume of a human voice. It's also easy to operate the keys of the instrument despite it's through holes. The case also has a built-in microphone plus battery-powered headphone preamp with some effects so that you also could excercise with headphones or record the saxophone via line output. The built-in reverb effect however is rather low-quality and so I prefer to play without headphones which still is loud enough by far for me.
