If your Tesla says “Maximum battery charge level reduced” and also shows the error code BMS-u018, it most likely means that the battery management system can’t see the full capacity of the battery. Sometimes, this can be solved just by charging your Tesla to 100% several times. But if this doesn’t help, the problem is in the battery – one or two of the bricks may have low or high voltage.

In this case, the dealership will most likely replace the battery or replace the malfunctioning brick depending on the model year and battery type in your car. But if your Tesla isn’t under warranty, this may be a pretty expensive repair.
