In today’s video I had the opportunity to chase the deadhead move of NKP 765 to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. She would take part in Steam In The Valley event. This portion covers the Bellevue Ohio to Akron Ohio most of it on Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad trackage. 765 is no stranger to the W&LE, this would be 10 years since she has taken this route to CVSR. We arrived in Bellevue Ohio at 11:30 AM, anticipating that 765 would be in anywhere between 12:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Lo and behold she was held up in Old Fort OH. for many hours due to a rail train dropping rails and then being stuck by an NS 302 unable to start its train out of the siding. Once the rail train was out of the way and 302 finally got rolling, NS 960 (The deadhead symbol to Bellevue that 765 was on,) was able to proceed east. At about 5:28 PM, 765 finally pulled into Bellevue taking the Lakeshore Connection on to W&LE rails, They quickly recrewed and took 765 straight to Akron. At 10:36 PM, is when she finally rolled into Akron to then be interchanged to CVSR trackage. Once the CVSR engine GP15-1 1443 coupled up to the rear of the consist and then proceeded to drag 765 out of the Akron through the night to Fitzwater yard. This certainly was a very long day for the two of us but it is truly a trip we won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
