Model Details.
These Citreons are quirky vehicles. This c2 seen at least in the early models, follows Henry Ford's famous quote, you can have any colour, providing it's black. Citreons on the other hand, quote to be any colour as long as it's grey. But the original vehicle model has followed the specification well. Built after the war, while materials of all types were in short supply, the French needed to provide a compact car that was sturdy and could stand up to the road conditions at the time.
The model, which is a 1:18 scale, has this attention to detail. The paintwork is superb, with no defects seen. It has a different setup where this model opens 2 doors, plus the engine bonnet, but does not have a separate boot, but has a folding roof that opens almost to the bumper at the rear. On the model, you can detach this. The model shows it has 4 doors, with only the two front ones opening. It would have been more interesting if they opened wider. The bonnet opens to reveal the engine. The headlights are attached to the front guards, not recessed like other vehicles of the time. It has that grill with the Citreons emblem. Other than the door handle and the fuel cap, it is a very basic car, that has been produced in a basic form to be low cost and priced to the needs of the time.
The interior continues this trend as being very basic. The seats are simple, with the padding built to be practicable, rather than for comfort. But even on our model, great attention is given to the detail. The colour scheme continues, as the interior is still that grey.
The console again is very basic in design and shows the unique gear shift so famous in all these early models. The instruments showed just the temp gauge, with the speedo, on a separate instrument.
The engine represents the boxer 2 with a 4 gearbox. The detail in this model is good, with most parts recognisable. Surprisingly, this engine & gearbox combination is able to go up to 60ph.
Overall, a good representation of this car. Quirky it maybe, a bit developed with that French flair, the vehicle was to be a car so much different than other makers.
A very interesting model. I give it a 4.5 / 5.0 Robin Finlay 26/07/2024.
