Fort Sarwahi | A Heritage of South Punjab, Pakistan

History, Culture, Heritage and archeology always used to identify a civilization. There are so many historical sites in South Punjab, Pakistan. One of such sites is Fort Sarwahi which his located near city Sadiqabad in extreme south Punjab. Historian consider the remains of Sarwahi as remains of an old fort. This fort was one of the six invincible forts of Raja Behasi Ram. According to Syed Noor Zamin Hussain, it was a trade route and was an important place regarding governance of Sindh. According to David Rose (1881), this fort was built by Sav Roy who was son of Raja Setal Roy. It is at height of 50 feet. It was documented by some historians that during the reign of Raja Sav Roy, four Muslim preachers came to the area. One of them was Haji Muhammad Iraqi, who was the cousin of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jillani and other preachers were Shaikh Taj-u-Din, Sultan Muhammad Barkati and Shakih Aziz. Many non Muslims embraced Islam and emerged as a power. They fought against the ruler and conquered the Sarwahi fort. Expect Shaikh Aziz out of the four preachers all others embraced martyrdom in the war. Their graves are there in the remains of Sarwahi fort. According to Gazzetier 1904, Mahindra was cheif of Sarwahi and during same period Hameer Sumrah was ruler of Pattan Minarah. At this time there was only a wall of fort and four graves could be observed as remains of Fort Sarwahi.
