Unnecessary mountain hike on hottest day (104°F) with 4K Drone shots | Trekkerpedia

The unnecessary mountain offers a 360-degree view of the howe sound and nearby peaks from the top. There are a total of two unnecessary mountain peaks situated at a distance of around 400 meters apart. The second peak offers a better view including the lions' peak as well.

We started the hike from the Cypress provincial park. You have to follow the lions' peak hiking trail. The trail is like this: Cypress provincial park - St. Marks Summit - Unnecessary mountain first peak - Unncessary mountain second peak. The first 3 KM of the hike is pretty easy. As you reach closer to St. Mark's Summit, the trail gets muddy and rooty as well.

The last 1.2 km to St. Mark's Summit is the steeper part of the hike. Towards the June end, we also encountered some snow patches mostly near the peak.

Because of the patches of snow, it was a little bit hard to find the trail but we were able to find the trail eventually. Just after the St. Mark's summit, there is a steep descent of around 1.2 Kms which makes the return journey tough as you have to ascend that part while returning. The trail is well marked. You also get Howe Sound View along the trail from time to time.

Once the patch of 1.2 KM of descending gets over, the trail becomes steep for the next 1.6 KM till the Unncessary mountain first peak. It is steep, full of roots and a bit of scrambling is also there. This steep part lasted for around one hour.

There was snow at the top so we needed crampons for most of the park from the first peak to the second peak.
