I'm guilty of this for sure. And this is a great way to share the importance of sturdy leadership in parenting.

If we can't stand by our decisions, particularly the important and impactful ones- whether it be related to set boundaries, expectations, rules for safety, or any other number of things- we will lose the trust and of our children in those types of moments.

They won't believe us any more than we believe ourselves. And that's a real problem. Because when it comes time for us to make meaningful decisions that truly matter for their safety or the betterment of the family, they won't be confident in our direction or conviction.

It can be so easy to waver. If it really isn't that important, don't start there in your demeanor or language. Enter a collaboration with your child so that their inputs can be considered before a decision, but you can't consistently allow them to change the course for you. They need a firm leader for those key moments. A leader they know they can rely on. And they need that leader to be you.
