We praise Thee, O God (Te Deum laudamus) Mode III (Anglican Translation)

Описание к видео We praise Thee, O God (Te Deum laudamus) Mode III (Anglican Translation)

Sung by the Rev. Benjamin Mayes, melody as used within the Lutheran Liturgical Brotherhood Prayerbook. This is the official 1662 book of common prayer translation of the Te Deum laudamus, written by St Nicetas of Remesia in 386 A.D. This translation has been approved for use within the Latin Catholic Church of Rome (anglican use/ordinariate) as well as the Eastern Orthodox Churches (western rite vicariate). This is a rare an example of non-metrical hymnody that has been enshrined within Latin christianity. Non-metrical hymnody is standard within Eastern Orthodox Catholic Christianity, but rare in the Western tradition, except in the form of antiphons with verses.

This anglican translation maintains a few errors, but is over-all a good translation. In the future we will post a corrected translation, which matches even more precisely the Latin words and melody. In addition to its use in the Divine Office, the Te Deum is occasionally sung in thanksgiving to God for some special blessing (eg. the election of a pope, the consecration of a bishop, the canonization of a saint, the profession of a religious, the publication of a treaty of peace, a royal coronation, etc.)
