The Nuclear Bunker is a must to visit when in this area of Fife. Had the worst happened this is where Scotland would have been governed from and hopefully some sort of normality restored. During the cold war most people had some sort of idea where the regional and local seats of government were in their area, they were meant to be secret, but you can’t hide what’s going on to the local population.
Most Civil volunteers new the areas command structure but not the locations and those who did would not talk about it in public for fear of panicking people. The location of this bunker was so remote that people in the area thought it was an old radar station.
Within the bunker you can see all the control rooms and watch videos that would be shown to the public if it looked like there was a possibility of a nuclear war, there are also the training videos that were for the people involved in government and civil defence which would not be in the public domain. These videos are pretty graphic and not for the faint hearted.
A very nostalgic visit for me.
