In relation to the book by Héctor Gutiérrez, it is a masterpiece in helping to identify diseases in our ornamental fish. It has the particularity of explaining what both a hobbyist and a professional should do when observing, analyzing, identifying (even under a microscope) and acting with the most appropriate treatment. It has a QR code that shows the parasite/bacteria/virus on video so we can compare it with what we are looking at under our microscope. It is a book that I recommend to all hobbyists who want to have or try to have their beloved fish as healthy as possible and who manage to act in the most correct way when a problem crosses their path…

I will transcribe what is on the Santarém Discus Plus website, to better explain what they do:

"Santarem Discus Plus is a company founded in June 2019 that sells Wild Discus.
Headquartered in Cascais, Lisbon, Portugal, it is an exclusively online sales company. A warehouse in Europe for the Company "Mãe" Santarém Discus in the Amazon, city of Santarém, founded in December 2008.
While Wild Discus is only sold in the Amazon to wholesalers with minimum orders, Santarem Discus Plus in Portugal sells mainly to individuals.
All Wild Discus in stock at Santarém Discus Plus underwent a 3 month quarantine in the Amazon before being exported to Portugal. In Portugal they are quarantined again for 3 months before being offered for sale.
This is a unique job in the wild discus market in the world, where wilds are sold extremely healthy, fat and colorful. Remembering that since they left their environment they were fed only with pellets and flakes from the Tropical brand, and then normally sold 6 months after being collected.
The collection of these Wild Discus is made by the CEO of the Santarem Discus Group, Vitor Hugo Quaresma directly in the Amazon. This selection is made in the Amazon in different communities and chosen one by one, during 4 months, normally between September and December, when the waters of the Amazon Rivers go down.
As they are harvested one by one, they are also sold one by one in this e-commerce company. It is probably the only company in the world that works this way, where you choose exactly the Wild Discus you want to have in your aquarium. The most honest way to sell Wild Discus.
With about 50,000 liters of water, the stock normally varies between 1000 and 1800 Wild Discus, from more than 15 different communities.
In 2022, the creation of the best Wild Discus that have been found in the Amazon in the last two years will begin. Some of them are extremely rare and unique to communities until recently unknown. Communities where new Wild Discus patterns were discovered following Santarem Discus research work.
A project that takes us to the origin of the Discus Hybrids on the market. But done in a planned and sustainable way. The aim is to reproduce each community's Wild Discus and sell the F1's to the international market at low prices to shops and individuals.
In recent years, a large investment has been made in logistics to make this investigation possible in different parts of the Amazon. Logistics is undoubtedly the most important factor to get so many beautiful specimens that can be found in our stock in Portugal."
