For many years, Fred West lived a quiet life in Gloucester. He worked as a builder and lived with his wife and family in a house that seemed ordinary to the neighbours. In 1994, police started investigating the property and found the remains of young women buried under the floorboards and in the garden. Later, Fred was arrested and charged with the murders of twelve young women. He had been living a double life as one of Britain’s deadliest serial killers. On January 1, 1995, while awaiting trial, Fred West was found dead in his prison cell. By taking his own life on New Year’s Day, he left many of his darkest secrets buried forever. The house, later called the “House of Horrors,” was eventually demolished, and his wife, Rosemary, was later convicted for her role in the crimes.
