I spent a freezing but enjoyable day in the Polish city of Poznan. Hopefully this vlog will help anyone planning to do the same. Poznan is a great place to visit & you can certainly see all the important sights in a day. If you have a few days it won’t be hard to fill your time.

In this vlog I’ll show you around the Old Market Square (Stary Rynek), Poznan Christmas Market on Liberty Square (Plac Wolności), a bright pink parish church locally known as the Fara & the Monument to the Victims of June 1956 located in the corner of Adam Mickiewicz Park (Park Mickiewicza) next to the Imperial Castle of Poznan (Zamek Cesarski).

My day in Poznan began at the Old Market Square (Stary Rynek) where I learnt a little Polish history, gazed upon the historic Merchant Houses & watched a goat show (Koziołki Poznańskie) above the clock face of Poznan Town Hall (Ratusz). I visited the Museum of the Wielkopolski Uprising of 1918-1919 but unfortunately I wasn’t able to enjoy the Old Market Square in all its glory as lots of construction, repairs & restoration work was taking place - the entire square was pretty much a building site.

I had a look inside the Basilica of our Lady of Perpetual Help, Mary Magdalene and St Stanislaus (Bazylika kolegiacka Matki Bożej Nieustającej Pomocy, św. Marii Magdaleny i św. Stanisława Biskupa) - a beautiful cathedral famed for its pink baroque styled facade. My walk around Poznan then took me to the reconstructed Royal Palace which is these days home to the Museum of Applied Arts.

Whilst in the area I found a local bakery authorised to bake and sell the city’s very own St Martin’s Croissant (Rogal Swiętomarciński) - confectionery that has been produced in the city since at least the 1800’s and should be high on any tourists list. I’ll tell you what I think of it in the video.

Leaving the city centre behind I walked west to Adam Mickiewicz Park (Park Mickiewicza) and found a colossal monument standing in the far corner dedicated to the victims of June 1956 (Pomnik Ofiar Czerwca 1956). Close by is a university, a meeting place called Adam Mickiewicz Square (Plac Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu) and the Imperial Castle built in the 20th century.

I continued my walk back towards the city centre where I found the impressive Poznan Christmas Market on Liberty Square (Plac Wolności) and headed in to join the festivities. The market was alive with Christmas trees, market stalls, fairground rides, festive music, bright lights and a ferris wheel overlooking it all.

What a wonderful way to end my day in Poznan & my tour around the city. With that in mind I bid you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS with plenty of festive cheer, laughter & song.
