Disney Destroyed the Wisdom of Mulan (2020 vs. 1998)

Mulan teaches us to be true to ourselves, or rather – she used to. It depends which Disney version we're talking about. In this video, I'll be comparing Mulan from 1998 and 2020, to share all we can learn about storytelling, and ourselves.

Mulan tells the story of a fearless young woman who disguises herself as a man in order to save her ailing father from serving in the Imperial Army.

Whilst Disney's 1998 animated film achieved universal acclaim, its 2020 live-action remake not only erased Mushu – and any semblance of humour – in an attempt to tell a more "historically accurate" story, but its paper-thin retelling meant the whole story lost its spark.
