The film 'Kurup' has run into controversy, following allegations that the movie is trying to glorify the notorius fugitive Sukumara Kurup. Sukumara Kurup had gone into hiding after brutally murdering a movie representative named Chacko, in the year 1984. Malayalam movie star Dulquer Salmaan is portraying a character in the movie 'Kurup' which is based on the incident. Many have criticised the movie and its promotion campaigns, alleging that they are trying to glorify 'Kurup' and are trying to present the character as a hero. Since the teaser of the movie was released, this particular controversy has been brewing. Then the trailer and song of the movie came out which made the controversy become even stronger. In an interview with Mathrubhumi News Online, Chacko's son Jithin Chacko says that the makers of the movie has convinced him that there is no glorification of any kind in the movie. Jithin Chacko says that the movie portrays the character of Kurup as a villain, murderer and not as a hero.
