Work continued today on the long-awaited redevelopment of the Kop Stand at the STōK Cae Ras, the historic home of Wrexham AFC. Heavy diggers moved in to rip up the old layers of tarmac that were first laid down for the temporary stand, clearing the way for the new 7,500+ seater stand that will transform the Racecourse Ground into a full four-sided stadium.
Machinery continued to excavate and flatten the ground, while progress on the perimeter fencing shows the site is now fully in prep mode. This comes after weeks of clearance work, the demolition of the old electrical substation, and confirmation that funding has been secured through a collateral charge agreement with Wrexham Council. With planning permission for the extra seating now approved, the project is moving fast towards major construction.
The new Kop will take the stadium capacity to over 18,000, bringing the Racecourse in line with UEFA Category 4 requirements – meaning Wrexham AFC can host international fixtures in North Wales for the first time in decades. It’s another huge milestone in the journey of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s ownership, as the Hollywood takeover continues to drive both on-field success and off-field transformation.
This redevelopment isn’t just about bricks and seats – it’s about restoring one of football’s most iconic grounds, boosting the local economy, and delivering a new era for Wrexham fans worldwide.
Stay tuned as we follow every step of the build – from groundwork, to steelwork, to the Kop finally rising back into the Wrexham skyline.
