Lloyd, Floyd and the Great Train Crash

Brother's Lloyd and Floyd are always competing to see who's engine is the best. Egged on by the railroads publicity hungry president, the boy's competition goes off the rails!

This is an idea from about 8 years ago when I first started seriously soliciting agents and editors. The pacing varies a lot, it's hard telling who the target audience is, and it's a bit random. No wonder it didn't get published! That said the feedback I received lead me to make a version of this where the protagonists were kids, and that did get me an agent. So there's that. Still, I really like this version of the characters Lloyd and Floyd - middle age men who act like kids.

This whole thing is very loosely based on an actual train crash publicity stunt that went sideways. The actual event wouldn't translate to a picture book too well as there were deaths and injuries when the boilers blew up after the crash!
